Awareness marketing

Some marketers do not only want to promote their own product but would like to do something meaningful for the world at the same time. Here are two examples of smart non-profit marketing.

Potable water generator

Creative students at The University of engineering and technology started a project to make a billboard that produces potable water. Initially this was a project to attract more students for the applications of the new school year. So they needed to call students attention.

Lima is the second largest capital in the world set on a desert and people are suffering form the lack of potable water. The presence of rain is almost zero but the atmospheric humidity is high (98%). So this was an opportunity to build the first billboard that produces drinking water out of air. The billboard has a unique technology that captures the air humidity and turns it into drinking water. 

Each tank can store 20 litres of purified water; the billboard has already produced 9450 litres in 3 months. This equals the water consumption of hundreds of families per month. Engineers should start building these kind of billboard in developing countries to help the people with their water supply. We have the power and the knowledge to help these countries.

Listen to Help

Two interns on BBH London’s creative internship programme have used Spotify to launch fundraising for Sound Seekers. Sound Seekers is an organisation that helps deaf children in the developing world. They created a track that automatically makes a donation when somebody listens to it.


How does it work:
When you listen to a song, spotify pays the artist
We replaced the artist with charity
If you listen now, you are helping deaf children

The key idea is people who can hear raising money for those who can’t. The interns created their own track, without an artist to pay. So every time their song is played the fees go directly to the charity.
